Mini-Assignment – due TBA Photograph an example of each of the following camera angles and shots: Camera Angles: - Eye level - High angle - Low angle - Birds-eye view - Oblique Shots: - Long shot - Medium shot - Close-up shot - Extreme close-up shot
TRIPTYCH Task Create a triptych using a theme of your choice. Step 1: Shooting Choose a theme (ex. line, landscape, zippers). Take a minimum of 24 photos of the theme using a variety of camera angles and shots. Apply your knowledge of shallow and wide depth of field and make sure that all of the shots are correctly exposed. Camera settings: Only use the camera’s manual or Aperture priority setting ("M" or "A" or "Av") Step 2:Editing - Import your photos to a new folder on your computer. - Choose the best 3 (make sure that they work together) - Edit these photos (ex. adjust the colour, rotate, sharpen, etc)
Open up the 3 photos in Photoshop (or alternative).
Adjust the sizes if you want (remember, they all need to be the same size and dpi - ex. 12"x8" 300 dpi).
Create a new image that is the size of the final triptych and then drag the 3 images into the new image (as layers). To make it easier to identify, rename the layers with more appropriate names. Also make sure that any strong lines still meet up. Save the working copy of the triptych (title it "working image") as a psd file. This way you can save it multiple times and the image quality won't suffer. - When finished, flatten the layers to make all 3 photos appear as 1 layer. Save with the title "finished triptych" as a jpeg file
Step 5: Presenting Import your original 24 shots along with the finished artwork into a new page on your weebly web page (use gallery tool and labelled Triptych). Step 6: Written evaluation In your new web page insert a text box and complete the critique questions
1. What is the title of your triptych? 2. Explain the idea behind your triptych. 3. Do you think you successfully created a triptych? Why or why not?
Photo Editing Skills 4. Explain how you edited your photos (specifically what adjustments you made). 5. Are you satisfied with your editing skills? List 1 strength and 1weakness when it comes to your photo editing skills.
Composition 6. Are you satisfied with the final photo composition (how everything is arranged in the scene)? 7. Do you think you challenged yourself to use a variety of different angles and shots when taking your photos? Did you have enough variety?
